“We’re not satisfied with making boards that just go straight and fast,” says @cisurfboards shaper Britt Merrick. “We’re interested in speed and we’re interested in flow, but you’ve got to be able to do the turns that you want to do, and you’ve got to be able to do your best surfing — so that’s the philosophy we took into our new mid-length." Up until his tragic passing a few weeks ago, Pipe legend Derek Ho was an inspiring North Shore icon and will forever remain close to the hearts and minds of the surf community. In decades past, surf magazines took the maxim “sex sells” to extreme lengths in promoting surfers and products, glorifying masculinity while often objectifying women and alienating anyone without a heteronormative perspective in the process. In his upcoming book, “A Spiritual Good Time”, artist @stephenmilner uses an amalgamation of found imagery to create an alternative, queer-friendly surf history that trades objectification for intimacy, competition for camaraderie.
